Most of the world knows the name, Alexis Tsipras, as the man who brought the communist party to control in Greece. Tsipras came into power on May 5, 2012.
This photo was taken on May 5th. I was in Greece to cover the elections and what was happening at the time of the deep financial crisis in the Greek capital of Athens. When I arrived in Athens, I went to Syntagma Square, and I was met by a huge group of people coming from Spain, France and Italy by foot. They were there marching to protest capitalism.
That evening, after having dinner with some international and local photographers, we walked through Syntagma Square. The same group of protestors were there, only now they were being pushed out by the police. The man in the picture clearly wasn’t ready to be evacuated, and I managed to snap his photo as he was flipping off the Greek policemen. Just after the photo was taken, the man turned to us, flashing a big smile.
